About Microscopes

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries. AmScope has been manufacturing microscopy equipment and accessories since 1996, headquartering in Irvine, CA.

Description

The AmScope T340B-DK-LED compound binocular microscope has interchangeable pairs of 10x widefield and 20x widefield eyepieces, a reverse-mounted nosepiece with four DIN achromatic objectives, Brightfield/Darkfield (BF/DF) LED illumination, and a double-layer mechanical stage. The vertical trinocular port can be used as a C-Mount or 23mm photo port (camera sold separately). The Siedentopf binocular head has 48 to 75mm inter-pupillary adjustment, fixed 30-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation capability to provide a more comprehensive view and enable sharing. Bilateral dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. The reverse-mounted nosepiece has 4x, 10x, 40xS (spring), and 100xS (spring, oil) DIN achromatic objectives that combine with the eyepieces to provide color correction of magnified images. The 40xS objective is spring loaded to prevent slide damage when focusing. The 100xS spring-loaded oil objective provides increased resolution over a standard objective. A reverse-mounted nosepiece keeps objectives out of the way to prevent damage and contamination, and to enable more secure slide handling. A compound microscope is used for inspection and dissection of specimens when two-dimensional images are desired.

The microscope has Brightfield/Darkfield (BF/DF) illumination. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background, and Darkfield (DF) illumination reflects light off the specimen, resulting in a light image on a dark background. LED illumination provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The 1.25 NA Abbe condenser can be adjusted to control the distance of the light from the stage and has an iris diaphragm to optimize the amount of light illuminating the specimen. The 0.7 to 0.9 NA darkfield condenser blocks the central portion of the light path to produce a darkfield image. The double-layer mechanical stage, with 1mm stage divisions, locks the slide into place and provides precise slide manipulation along the X- and Y-axis to allow coordinates to be recorded, enabling the viewer to return to a specific location on the slide. Graduated coaxial focus control allows measurements to be taken. The enamel-coated cast-steel body is durable and resistant to stains and corrosion.

5. AmScope ML-A-1-AA 30mL Microscope Immersion Oil Type A

Feature

Meets ISO-8036-1 Specifications
Viscosity, cSt = 150 +/ 10%
Clear, odorless, removable
Size: 1 mL
Safe for all lenses

Description

This item contains 1 Oz (30ml) Type A immersion oil, generally used with a microscope objectives for better microscopy images. Type A immersion oil has a very low viscosity, reducing the likelihood of air-bubble formation during application.

Note: how to clean Microscopes Immersion Oil? If you are using a 100X objective with immersion oil, just simply "swipe" the excess oil off the lens with a kimwipe after use. Occasionally dust may build up on the lightly oiled surface so if you wish to completely remove the oil then you must use an oil soluble solvent. For the Type A or B immersion oil, you can use Naptha, Xylene, or turpentine (use very small amounts on the kimwipe). Do not use water, alcohol or acetone as the oil is insoluble to these solvents. Consult the MSDS info that is supplied with your immersion oil to see what solvents are recommended. To remove other oily substances, we recommend using the detergent called Wisk and prepare a solution of 1 part Wisk to 100 parts water.

A drop of immersion oil between the slide and condenser, and between the slide and objective lens, provides a distortion-free path for light. Safe for all lenses, this medium-viscosity immersion oil is slightly lighter than Type B. The refractive index is 1.5150, the same as that of glass. It can be easily cleaned from slides with a bit of xylene on a lens tissue and is supplied in a bottle with applicator tip so no pipet is necessary.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

Description

The AmScope SM-3T professional stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, and a single-arm boom stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 7x-45x. The trinocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The vertical trinocular port can be used as a C-Mount or 23mm photo port (camera sold separately). The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide continuous zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. High-eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

Ambient lighting illuminates the specimen, eliminating the need for power or batteries. The microscope has a 17" pillar that has an 8" vertical working distance. The 16" single-arm boom has a 24" overall length. Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The microscope head can be rotated on the X- and Y-axes. The solid cast-steel base is 1-3/4 x 9 x 9 inches (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).

Description

The AmScope M158C-E monocular compound microscope has a 10x widefield and 25x widefield eyepiece, a forward-facing nosepiece with three DIN achromatic objectives, Brightfield LED illumination, a 0.65 NA single-lens condenser, and a plain stage. The integrated 0.3MP CMOS sensor has a removable USB 2.0 output to capture or display still or video images on a computer or projector. The forward-facing revolving nosepiece has 4x, 10x, and 40x DIN achromatic objectives that provide color correction of magnified images. The monocular viewing head has one 10x widefield eyepiece on a fixed 45-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain and 360-degree rotation capability to provide a more comprehensive view and enable sharing. A digital compound microscope is used for inspection and dissection specimens when two-dimensional images are desired, and where image capture, detailed records, or documentation is required.

The microscope includes a 0.3MP camera that has a CMOS color sensor for displaying still and video images, or streaming live video to a computer or projector. The Brightfield (BF) camera-type produces dark images on a light background. The camera can be mounted in any 23mm, 30mm, or 30.5mm eyepiece, and is compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 (includes drivers). The camera includes a Windows-only compatible image capture and editing software package that provides still image and live video capture and editing. The software supports JPG, TIF, GIF, PSD, WMF, and BMP file formats. Editing features include stitching, EDF (extended depth of field), note insertion, and adding shapes and watermarks.

The microscope has lower (diascopic) Brightfield illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background. LED illumination provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The 0.65 NA single-lens condenser and six-hole disc diaphragm control the amount of light illuminating the specimen. Coaxial coarse focus eases use for young viewers. The plain stage has an opening for light transmission and stage clips to secure the slide or specimen in place while viewing. A stage stop prevents the stage or specimen from coming into contact with the objectives. The microscope has three AA batteries (sold separately) and a power adapter to allow the microscope to be used away from power sources. The solid-metal frame has a stain-resistant enamel finish for durability.
