For many pets, a 100w MVB lightbulb provides the ideal temperature and environment and is superior to 125 / 160 watt lights, LED, and fluorescent bulbs. Helps reduce the need for a special supplement or med in their diet. To keep pets active and mega happy, this should generally be used to provide heating and light during the day (not at night) to create a similar environment to their natural habitat or a zoo. Supply them with a ray of sunshine!

Feature

Self-ballasted mercury vapor bulb
Helps prevent metabolic bone disease
Provides the benefits of natural sunlight
Optimal levels of UVB, UVA, visual light and heat in one bulb
Increased UVB penetration distance, + 12 inches

Description

The Exo Terra Solar-Glo Sun 160 watt Simulating Terrarium Lamp is the solution to one of the most important aspects of keeping reptiles and amphibians, providing the benefits of natural sunlight. The proper balance of ultraviolet light (including UVA and UVB), visual light and infrared light (heat) in one easy-to-install bulb, makes the Exo Terra Solar-Glo Sun Simulating Terrarium Lamp the choice of professional breeders. The Solar-Glo is a full spectrum light with carefully tuned peaks to ensure appetite, activity, brilliant colors, and calcium absorption through Vitamin D3 production, and above all to prevent metabolic bone disease.

Note: Rheostats (or power dimmers), thermostats, or adjustable-power lamps CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be used with the bulb. If a bulb is removed or turned off for maintenance, it still needs to cool before it will turn on again. This is related to movement of the fixture (which needs to remain static in order to function properly). For example, if the bulb is resting on a sliding screen terrarium top, and the enclosure is opened, the bulb is jostled and might turn off for the aforementioned 10-20 mins for safety/longevity reasons.

Feature

For reptiles with very high UV requirements
Helps prevent metabolic bone disease
Ideal for desert set-ups or taller terrariums
Maximizes calcium absorption
Combine with Natural Light or Reptile Vision for optimal visual light output

Description

The Exo Terra Reptile UVB200 emits the ideal UVB spectrum for optimal Vitamin D3 photosynthesis. The Reptile UVB200 Bulb is especially designed to simulate conditions for reptiles with very high UV requirements, like diurnal reptiles from desert environments. These areas receive direct unfiltered sunlight with high levels of UVB. The significantly high Vitamin D3 yield index results in increased vitamin D3 photosynthesis to aid calcium absorption and prevent metabolic diseases. The extended UVB penetration makes this bulb the ideal choice for taller terrariums or terrariums with denser screens.

8. Exo Terra Repti-Glo 5.0 Compact Fluorescent Tropical Terrarium Lamp, 26-Watt

Feature

Stimulates appetite, activity and reproductive behavior through UVA radiation
Ideal for all tropical and sub-tropical reptiles
High UVB output, effective up to 12"
Recommended in combination with Repti-Glo 2.0 for a higher visual light output
Provides necessary UVB rays for optimal calcium metabolism

Description

The Exo Terra Repti-Glo 5.0 Compact Tropical Terrarium Lamp has a moderate to high UVB output, similar to that of shady environments such as rain forests and other tropical locations. Reptiles living in these habitats receive less UV radiation because of the many climatological conditions that prevent direct sunlight from reaching them or their basking sites. The advantage of the Exo Terra Repti-Glo 5.0 Compact Tropical Terrarium Lamp is its size and the fact that it is self-ballasted. A regular screw fitting is sufficient to operate these bulbs. The bulb has wattage of 26, and the spiral shape of the bulb enables vertical or horizontal mounting without compromising performance.Although light is much more complex, there are three facets of light that are important for reptile husbandry: ultraviolet light, visible light and infrared light. In order to create these three biological aspects of sunlight artificially, Exo Terra has developed several specialized lights. Reptiles require appropriate and high quality lighting in order to meet certain different metabolic needs. Fluorescent bulbs lose their UV radiation and approximately 50% of their lighting output quality within one year. Changing your terrarium bulb regularly ensures optimal light conditions and UV radiation to keep your reptiles healthy.

Description

Exo Terra Compact Fluorescent Lighting
Without the suns energy, all life on earth would cease to exist. It is by the suns energy that all life forces are driven. Although the sun and its light are very complex, there are only three elements of light that are important and easily reproducible for reptile husbandry: ultraviolet light, visible light and infrared light. In order to create these three biological aspects of sunlight artificially, Exo Terra has developed several specialized lights to be used in the natural terrarium or aqua-terrarium setting. It is important to know that it is almost impossible to accommodate all of these needs in a single light source, a combination of different light sources is necessary in most cases. The table below will help you make the right lighting choice.

Exo Terra Compact Fluorescent Lighting

Exo Terra Compact Fluorescent Bulbs

The most important feature of a Repti-Glo fluorescent bulb is its ability to emit UVB light (ultraviolet B), a component of sunlight. Not all reptiles or terrarium animals need the same amount of UVB radiation. A rainforest animal may require less UVB than a desert animal, nocturnal activity versus daylight activity also is a factor. The distance from the bulb to the animal is equally important. The further the animal is away from the bulb the lower the UVB radiation, the closer the animals are to the bulb the higher the levels of UVB.

Exo Terras fluorescent bulbs are classified according to their percentage of UVB output. The Repti Glo 2.0 emits very little UVB light (2%), in most cases not sufficient for vitamin D3 synthesis. For tropical and sub-tropical reptiles, 5% bulbs (Repti Glo 5.0) are perfectly adequate, provided they are correctly positioned on the terrarium, the bulb is changed regularly, and the number of hours of exposure is sufficient. 10-12 hours daily has proven to be a satisfactory exposure level for most species. Animals living in deserts, which are areas with high UVB levels, should be exposed to 10% UVB bulbs (Repti Glo 10.0).

It is equally important to know that in fluorescent bulbs the more visible light emitted from the bulb the lower the UVB radiation. The Repti Glo 2.0 is a brighter bulb than the Repti Glo 10.0 bulb.

Exo Terra Compact Fluorescent Lighting
Why Compact Fluorescent?
The advantage of the Exo Terra Repti-Glo Compact Fluorescent bulb is its size and the fact that it is self-ballasted. A regular screw fitting is sufficient to operate these bulbs. The spiral shape of the bulb enables vertical or horizontal mounting without compromising performance.

Repti Glo 2.0
The Exo Terra Repti Glo 2.0 is a general light source with a high visual light output and a very high color rendering index (CRI), but a lower 2% UVB radiation. This bulb is suitable for snakes, amphibians, frogs, toads, salamanders and nocturnal animals. Plants will thrive under this light as well. It is also a perfect complementary light to a second higher UVB bulb to boost visual light in the terrarium.

Repti Glo 5.0
The Exo Terra Repti Glo 5.0 has a moderate to high 5% UVB output, similar to that of shady environments such as rain forests and other tropical locations. Reptiles living in these habitats receive less UV radiation because of the many climate and habitat conditions that prevents direct sunlight from reaching them or their basking areas.

Repti Glo 10.0
The Exo Terra Repti Glo 10.0 has a very high 10% UVB output similar to that associated with desert environments. Desert locations receive more direct sunlight than any other because of fewer clouds, less air humidity and no plants or trees to provide shade. Therefore desert reptiles are exposed to more UV radiation than any other type of reptile. This bulb can also be used on screened terrariums or terrariums with dense screen covers to ensure UVB penetration. Screens can filter out as much as 50% of the UVB rays.
